What's New in r420
Release r420 was published on 17 Dec, 2024
This week we have some more great updates for you: first of all there's now new properties to set a template to use when dragging and dropping an instance from the Project Bar to the Layout View. This means you can now choose which instance is the default one that is created this way. This release has a range of other improvements for the Layout View, including improved support for hierarchies, and some usability fixes.
The Animations Editor has also had its sprite sheet import dialog overhauled, and now it's much more powerful. If you've ever had to deal with spritesheets that have multiple animations spread across a single image, the new import dialog allows you to choose ranges of frames to import, helping manage this case much more easily. It's also got a variety of other tools to help you manage importing spritesheets, so take a look and try it out.
Another nice addition in this release is that when adding a new object, behavior, or effect, you can now use a pin to top option to make your favorites always appear at the top of the dialog for quicker access. There's also a great new example to check out! It makes excellent use of timelines for slideshow-style content.
Please note: this is our last scheduled beta release of the year. The team will be taking a well-earned break over the next couple of weeks, during which time there will not be any beta releases and support may be limited. We'll be back to normal in early January.
