What's New in r303
Release r303 was published on 19 Jul, 2022
We have a big Construct Animate update for you! This release introduces new support for exporting MP4 videos, using the H.264/AAC codecs. This format is ubiquitously supported and in some cases can be used where WebM is not supported. You can now also export videos using the modern AV1 video codec which will likely have better quality and compression than other formats, but may not be widely supported yet.
We've also added a new option to export to GIF! Given the age of the GIF format it has limitations, in particular being limited to 256 colors and no alpha channel (only color-keyed transparency). While videos are often a better and more modern option, sometimes for compatibility you still need a genuine old-fashioned GIF file, and now you can export them from Construct Animate too.
The Timeline Bar now also supports auto-keyframing, making it even quicker to set up animations. With auto-keyframing enabled, making changes to an object will automatically add or update keyframes in the timeline.
We've also added support for WebP images! This format supports both lossless and lossy compression that beats both PNG and JPEG, and is now widely supported. You can now export image sequences in WebP format as well as PNG, and other interactive export options also allow choosing WebP to reduce the download size.
As ever there's also a batch of bug fixes, as well as several other updates and improvements. Happy testing!
